"Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour", Kate Fox, Hodder, £8.99

If you are English and you find yourself considering your fellow-travellers in this section of the British Isles and wondering "what are they on?". Or if you aren't English and you have trouble understanding the bizarre language and rituals that English colleagues or acquaintances seem to use for the most simple activities, then this book is for you.

The author, Kate Fox, has an excellent track record as an anthropologist and has applied her skills to try and explain key questions such as; 'Why do we talk about the weather so much?', 'why do we say "sorry" so frequently?' (even when we haven't done anything wrong), and 'what actually is the English attitude to work?'

It isn't a business book as such but there are some valuable insights into the behaviour of people who you have to deal with on a day to day basis for the purposes of earning a living.
